The Guardian; A book Review.

“You always have a choice. It’s just that some people make the wrong one.”
- Nicholas Sparks, The Guardian

Nicholas Spark, as cliché as that name sounds to love stories, face it. He's the best.

Unlike other writings of his, The Guardian, his 7th book,  has a mix of psychological terror, themes of obsessive love, danger, and of course, his trademark theme (romance).
Also, unlike his other stories, The Guardian derived completely from his imagination.

He was inspired to mix in a little thrill into this book . This is because when he was 15, Nick's dad recommended him to read a Stephen King
classic, The Stand. He said ''from the moment I opened the cover, I couldn’t put it down, the  ever-mounting tension compelled me to read long after I should have gone to sleep.''

In the past, Nick wrote about everlasting love, love after loss, first love, love as rescue, love and forgiveness, love and sacrifice and for The Guardian,he simply chose to write about love and danger. In other words, he wanted to write a story in which two believable characters fell in love, but I wanted to add elements of suspense that would ultimately put both characters in jeopardy.

A great dane in his book. It'll be sad if one of these ahemm..dies

“everyone - you included - is on her best behavior in the beginning of a relationship. Sometimes little quirks turn out to be big ones, and the big advantage that women have - sometimes the only advantage - is their intuition.”

OKAY.. Let's CUT TO THE CHASE

“In the instant their lips first met, there was a flicker of something almost electrical that made him believe the feeling would last forever.”

Sypnopsis
Julie Barenson's young husband left her two unexpected gifts before he died: a Great Dane puppy named Singer and the promise that he would always be watching over her. Now, four years have passed. Still living in the small town of Swansboro, North Carolina, 29-year-old Julie is emotionally ready to make a commitment to someone again. But who? Should it be Richard Franklin, the handsome, sophisticated engineer who treats her like a queen? Or Mike Harris, the down-to-earth nice guy who was her husband's best friend? Choosing one of them should bring her more happiness than she's had in years. Instead, Julie is soon fighting for her life in a nightmare spawned by a chilling deception and jealousy so poisonous that it has become a murderous desire.

How I know this is a good book ,,.... good question.

This is how.

When the book is finished, I'd go what would I do with my life now feeling.
And if anything dies, in this gatdam book, U'd cry. That's how Nick manages to give a character so much meaning and love, so when the moment is right, for him to take it away... well, he does it with no mercy, and you'd cry a waterfall.

Overall it was a great book coming from Nick.. give it a 3.9 out of 5.  ENOUGH TO MAKE IT INTO ANOTHER hollywood hit.

Swansboro, NC

Swansboro, NC

Swansboro, the setting for Nicholas Sparks’ romantic thriller, The Guardian, is a historical waterfront community located where the White Oak River spills into the Atlantic Ocean. Known as “The Friendly City By the Sea,” Swansboro’s laid back atmosphere of Eastern North Carolina is evident in the vibrant community between neighbors and businesses that give it a small-town feel. Swansboro has many things to see, from the unique waterfront shops, boutiques, and dining, to outdoor activities like boating, water sports, and fishing. The open spaces, unspoiled beaches, and miles of coasts make it the perfect setting for Sparks to weave a suspenseful tale of mystery and desire in The Guardian.
